Just got paid today, got me a pocket full of change - ZZ Top

Yes I finally got a job! I will be secretary at IMAX. (imaxcorp.com) Check out their gorgeous furniture and their nice website. They do all their advertising/design inhouse and they like to hire from within. It has potential and a great discount. I start on Feb. 22.

I also figured out why the Super Bowl ads sucked. They were saving the good ones and the advertising $'s for the Olympics and they are way worth it. The women's half pipe Monday night - abfaburific. wow. And Brighton has 127' base. The ice skating doubles long program was a tear jerker. The Chinese couple definitely earned their silver medal.

And lest anyone suppose that I was neglecting my advertising/film fetish - I found out about the Tulsa Ad Federation's award show this Saturday. It should be mostly commercials -my fav. I'm stoked. Ad awards shows are usually hilarious although tickets are pricey unless you get them free from your agency - but definitely worth it. Seeing the One Show in NYC was dreamy but this should be good too.

peace-out

People got more baggage than JFK - and I'm talking about the airport. -The Dandy Warhols

So a little current events. Hooray the Olympics start today!!! Snowboarding whooppee!Brighton has a base of 127'!!!

So now for some slightly not current events - how about that SuperBowl. So I watch it for the ads. I'm and advertising major and ya gotta be in the know. Anyways I started watching in the 2nd quarter so I missed the only good ad - Budweiser one with the baby clydesdale. The sprint one about the bonus stun attacker thingy which was funny but not exactly worth 2 mil. so not really Super Bowl worthy and not gonna win any awards not One Show, Addy, or Cannes material.

And the half time show?? I've never been a Stones fan but I have to say the sound was bad. You couldn't even hear the guitars for most of the show. I hadn't ever really downloaded The Stones or ever really cared to and as I was watching I understood why. It goes back to a feeling I've always had but never vocalized. I don't like bands where the lead singer doesn't play an instrument ie The Backstreet Boys or NSYNC. Unless they have an awesome voice or some other significant quality that adds to the band like writing awesome lyrics etc. If their only other abilities besides running around the stage screaming or singing sappy crappy love songs include but are not limited to such things like getting wasted and seducing women - I'm just not that impressed.

And lastly have a kick butt Valentine's Day or Singles Awareness Day. Last year was the only time in my life when I had a boyfriend for Christmas, New Years and Valentines Day. It wasn't planned - it just happened. I ended up breaking up with Ryan right after Winter Semester started and then Rushit and I hooked up a couple weeks later - right before Valentines Day. Crazy eh? It will never happen again. So it's back to Singles Awarenes Day for me - which means absolutely no sitting moping and watching sappy chick movies. You have to do something crazy and fun like bungee jumping or you have to something insanely funny like chinese karaoke. I'm still working on it - I'm in Tulsa...so it could be slightly more difficult this year. I would give anything to go snowboarding on Val's Day. I think I did 2 years ago - that would make for a wicked awesome Singles Awareness Day but whatever - I'm single and loving life and that's cool.

I know it's only rock and roll but I think I like it - The Dandy Warhols

Yes I like the Dandy Warhols. At first I wasn't sure about their latest cd but while I was running this morning they started playing on my shuffle and I decided I like it - not as much as Welcome to the Monkey House but it'll do.

So I got this awesome Beatles tee shirt at WalMart last night. It was Rubber Soul and black and maroon - I had to buy it. It made me remember my obcessive Beatles phase in junior high and then I was like whatever happened to those cool maroon converse I had that I wouldn't ever let mom throw away. My main Beatles phase and my converse phase were synonymous. So I was looking for them in the boxes in the garage and I found some old cards - like a card from Pops and a copy of the Velveteen Rabbit that Grammy and Pops got me for Christmas one year. They'd written some cool stuff in it. It means a lot more now that I'm older and just read the script to Eternal Sunshine.

Then I found this card that my friends frosh year at BYU gave me. It had me and Whitney Woppit on the front and Tim Hassel trying to sneak in the pic and everyone had signed it - all the old Budge Boys. Now most of them are married. That still ranks as my best birthday ever. They wrote on the sidewalk near the Tanner Building and put out balloons and they all called right at midnight to say Happy B-day. Then on my b-day they kidnapped me and took me to The Brick Oven and the guys carried me on their shoulders the whole way. Then the next day we went bungy jumping. And I went on 2 dates the next week and both times they sang Happy B-day(one was homecoming and the other was with Clay Bunker to Tucanos. He was the waiter in the Mormon Pride and Prejudice) and then I celebrated later with Carl and Holly.

And other news when I was at Barnes and Noble the other day - they had these hilarious books like Lies to Tell Small Kids by Andy Kiley. Some of my favorites were the one that said spaghetti tries to wriggle back to Italy or that if you put a piece of bologna in the DVD player - it plays a short video about cows or that eggs talk to each other when you close the carton or slugs are snails that got mugged or that wild hamburger live in the desert colonies. Rad! It's like a whole book of all those crazy things that Calvin's dad used to tell him in Calvin & Hobbes. And another book contained Stupid Questions to ask on first dates - some classics were what do you think it feels like to spontaneously combust - or what super powers does a super model have? Or if you could have a theme some play everytime you walked into a room what would it be? - anyone watch that Family Guy episode?

My theme song for today is She Came in Through the Bathroom Window by The Beatles... maybe I should put that on my cell phone...

Off the top of my head I'd say you're lookin at a Bosky, a Jim Brown, ah.. a Miss Daisy, 2 Jethro's, and a Leon Sphynx. Not to mention the biggest Ella Fitzgerald-ever. - Ocean's Eleven

So I've been reading this book called "And I Thought I Was Crazy" I got it at my grampa's house. This writer/ art director interviewed or surveyed people and compiled a list of peoples quirks - from clothes to money to bathroom habits and a section of random ones that didn't fit a category. Hilarious. My room mates had always said I was quirky and my family says that I'm "goofy in a good way." But these were crazy. There was a rating system for how quirky you were by how well you related to these other quirks. It turned out I wasn't that quirky.

But I have a quirk. I don't like going and having my cell phone fixed or my computer fixed for one reason which I will explain. My main problem right now it that I need to get my powerbook and my shuffle fixed but I live near Tulsa. The closed mac store is in Oklahoma City nearly 2 hrs away. Oh how I miss the ginormous mac store in soho. When I went to CompUSA several months ago to buy an external hard drive - I was less than impressed. The guy working there asked me what I was looking for as I was inspecting the various hard drives. I asked him about the differences in Laycee hard drives and about space. He knew very little. He started asking me personal questions. I asked if I needed to buy a firewire chord since the hard drive required one to hook up. He walked me over to the aisle with usb chords and firewires. Then he went to ask and found out that they came with the chords already. Then I was looking at the mac fonts and was like "so...you like fonts, eh?" ARRGGh...I want my computer supplies and helpful information not a date for Friday night. I came home with my supplies and little else. I found a computer repair store and asked them about mac repair places so I have one that I'm going to try out...I hope they are good with computers cuz my weekend's already booked.

I'm cursed by all ambitious thoughts...is that all you've got - The Format

So I quit the police department and got myself a steady job - The Beatles

Yes - still have no job. So I spent my day yesterday at the Philbrook Art Museum. I applied for a job there and I was checking it out. They had this really cool film exhibit called CUT. I guess there are some benefits of being unemployed.

The powers that be decided that I should have my grampa's car. Dad and I drove up there to get it. It's a 93 Buick Regal Custom. My grandma had it pimped out for a 93 and they took good care of it. It has 197,000 miles but its still runnin. I named it Barbara, but ya gotta say it like Coffee Talk. Me an Barbara - we's tight.

I never did a tribute to the Mistletoe Mobile aka Le Tigre aka The Darkness. It was the old black 92 Taurus that I drove in high school. There was that tight spot with trying not to hit that car that jumped out into the intersection when I went in the ditch and almost hit a powerline. Then my dad drove Le Tigre out to P-Rovo after frosh year and surprised me. Dave called it The Mistletoe Mobile but it was mostly a joke cuz he didn't get any action in it. Ironically it got more action after the name change. Le Tigre came from Zoolander - one of Derek's looks. Lindsey named her car Meekus - good times. The Darkness came later and didn't stick very well. Although the car was black and I believe in a thing called love - it just didn't work. I left Le Tigre back in P-rovo with Dave when I went to NYC. It didn't survive long and was donated to the kidney foundation. We had some good times - Le Tigre survived wrecks and a multitude of insults from loser boy Kris who ironically didn't even have a car - The Le Tigre put up a good fight - rest in peace.

(editor's correction from last entry - I meant Home Teachers not my Visiting Teachers - dang I always get the names mixed up but that mix up was wrong really wrong.)
