Welcome to the first of the my fabulous venture into the world of bloggy blogs. For those of you that tuned in regularly to my update on yearofthehoodie.com this may sound strangely familiar. I am currently living in NYC. I just finished an advertising internship for McCann Erickson and recently graduated from BYU with a degree in dating faux pas with a minor in snowboarding bruises. Somehow that landed me a job in NYC working at the fabulous Cafe Lalo, better known as where they filmed that scene in "You've Got Mail" with the book and the rose. It's cute and very boho. Think Toulouse-Lautrec and Moulin Rouge without the courtesans.

I'm living on the upper west side with BYU and Horsepool House alumni, Amanda and hopefully Jackie will return for more NYC adventures after her Houston repreive. I left the dungeon otherwise known as the International House on Saturday, but not without using my meal card to loot them of all of their vitamin water, especially the energy one. With late nights at Cafe Lalo, the natural caffene, guarana has become my new best friend.

The best part is that we installed the AC - halleluah! the only salvation for New Yorkers besides Central Park and frequent visits to Starbucks. My biggest thrills are summer rain, subways with AC and that rare passing on the subway of a guy with really great cologne.

Wait, I must mention one other exciting event: attending an Apollo Sunshine concert with my fellow indie rock enthusist, Seth. It was a popular venue in Brooklyn but the house was nowhere near packed. Seth and I went to the front row. We were enjoying the music when the tambourine guy decides he needs a drink. He passes me the tambourine on the way to the bar. It was like handing me a live wire. Then Seth and I were really grooving. The only set back was when they asked for the tambourine back after 6 songs and I accidently hit the drummer's mic - dayam that was good aim (oops). We stayed after and talked with the band. We scored autographs, a set list, a drumstick and 2 picks. Why doesn't WILCO come to Brooklyn?

I also attended the One Show which is a big international advertising awards show. I scored a free ticket from a friend at McCann. It was awesome - an evening only appreciated by advertising nerds. I also had tickets to the afterparty at a swanky penthouse near Port Authority. Supposedly they do a lot of photoshots there - for Penthouse? that was the rumor circulating. I sipped my coke and laughed with my new friends. The bartender thought it would hilarious to try and slip me some Jack Daniels. I opposed the idea but he got quite a bit in the glass before I noticed him laughing and said stop. I also didn't find out that the little hor d'eurves BBQ sandwichs had sparkling sauce until I had ingested one. Waking up the next day was a little interesting.

Monday I got my first NYC sunburn courtesy of Coney Island. They have the best Italian ices there. Amanda have decided to make it a weekly tradition - hopefully not the sunburn part. That's all the adventures for now - next on the agenda is my job search! (it's time to get a salary!) and my fellow former Hoosier, Holly is coming to visit!
